Reaktor 6.1 has just been released with Ableton Link support. So I got out my Surface Pro 4 running Ableton Live and “Ableton Linked” it directly to the Surface Book running Reaktor 6.1 EASY! No cables, no messing around – instant tempo sync. Awesome!
A quick look and demo of Deskew’s Gig Performer software running the on the Surface Book. Gig Performer is a VST Host that lets you chain together virtual instruments and effects to create a live performance rig. You can then create a rack of controls for it which are fully multi-touchable. Check it out! www.gigperformer.com
How well does Ableton Live run on the Surface Book? Let’s find out! I build a big project on the i7 Surface Book and keep adding stuff until it crackles. I then compare it to the i5 Surface Pro 4 and see how they differ. Specs: Surface Book i7 6600U 2.6GHz 16GB with Nvidia Surface […]
Yeco is a multi-touch MIDI and OSC controller for Ableton Live – and it doesn’t run on an ipad. Oh no, this runs on full fat Windows and MacOS. Why is that important? Cubase Pro 9 was just released from Steinberg and so I dropped it onto the Surface Book to see what’s new and what works well for touch. I’ll be making some music with it really soon to see what it can handle.

I wanted to try to demonstrate how Windows tweaks have a positive effect on music software. So in this video I show Pro Tools, Cubase and Reaktor running on an out-of-the-box, untweaked Surface Book – there are some issues. I then tweak the Surface Book and come back to the tests to see what’s improved. […]
Microsoft have leant me a Surface Book – woohoo! I’ve got it for a month or two and I hope to be able to install a lot of music software and run a load of tests to see how well it behaves. In my last video I demonstrated how Pro Tools seems to be running […]
Pro Tools ran really poorly in my “Mega Test” back in May, so I’ve returned to see if the Windows and Surface updates have improved things. The idea is to see if it will record 8 tracks of audio and let me run a bunch of effects. Will it work? At the same time it […]
