Surface Session Ep15 – Cakewalk Sonar and Surface Book performance testing

Sonar performance on Surface Book

I didn’t test Sonar on the Surface Pro 4 back in the “Mega test” so this is the first time I’ve really put it through its paces. It certainly didn’t disappoint. I was able to get full use of the Pro Channel effects over my 16 track test song plus a bunch of other CPU intensive plug-ins for over a 100 instances. On the virtual instrument side Reaktor proved to be no problem. what is the oral dosage of ivermectin for ear mites for cats I was able to run 25 instruments including 4 Reaktor Blocks, 15 Arturia synths and 6 Cakewalk sample based instruments.

In my testing of the Surface Pro 4 I also discovered that I had restricted to the CPU to 80% – I did this during troubleshooting some time ago and found that it gave a more stable response. ivermectin sheep drench for goats? This means that in my previous performance tests the SP4 would have been under-performing. It’s all a bit embarrassing really. Still, all it means is that the SP4 can do more than I suggested – which is great! when you can’t worm horses with ivermectin? I’ll talk it about it some more and probably re-run some tests for when I do my conclusionary round-up next week.

  1. I really appreciate your work, Robin! Thank you for taking the time to go through these programs one by one in detail. As someone who is keen on procuring a Surface Pro 4 sometime in the near future, I have found you to be the go to for friendly, informative advice on this front.

Question for you. My main DAW is undoubtedly Reason and I am curious as to its current performance abilities, given the boosts recently seen in Pro Tools and others. Might you be doing a follow up video regarding this program?

I look forward to the future of your video series and creative endeavors. Cheers!

  2. Thank you for your work.
    Ableton, Studio One, Reason user.
I was going for a new powerful PC laptop or a MBP 2015 ( the new ones are a step backward).
Dilemma: familiar Windows OS or portability and power.
After seeing your videos I realized that I could have both if I wait until SB 2 coming soon,
And hopefully they keep the USB ports (unlike the new MBP).
    Keep the great work!

  3. Hi Robin,

Thanks for all the hard work, these videos have been very helpful in my decision making process. What audio device are you using in the video for Sonar?
